Enjoying the blaze of colour with a few PPMC patch members and strikers across northern York and Peel Regions. Thanksgiving Sunday we rolled into Tim’s in Schomberg for goodbyes as we were getting ready to split to our prospective Turkey Dinners, one of York Region’s finest rolled in behind us and began running plates. Most of us went inside for drinks only to return to find this gem of law enforcement engaging our members and requesting ID’s. What is really disturbing is that we weren’t even moving and we were told that we would be delayed until we gave up our ID’s or they could make things more difficult and wouldn’t let any of us leave until we all gave our ID’s up.
One further stroke on this insult on our freedoms was that rather than asking us individually for our ID’s she had other members solicit the ID’s from the less accommodating members. Being one of those I felt that unless they asked me directly and informed me personally of the reasons for this flagrant violations of my rights and freedoms I was no in rush to hand over my ID.
Apparently there is a MC Clubhouse in the area and there was some confrontation between local law enforcement and patch members the day before, so because we were wearing a patch, the officer felt it prudent to profile us and help the BEU with their intelligence collection. All the while we are being held up, about a hundred or so bikes kept streaming by enjoying the exceptional weather that is generally reserved for for a summer weekend without being harassed or forced to produce ID’s.
Clearly wearing MC on your back has some negative repercussions but I wouldn’t give my cut up for anything. Our club has had a positive impact on the community and even more with the members of the Canadian Forces as we continue to build the Heroes Highway Ride & Rally. What is rather concerning is that many of these officers are former members of the CF and I have a had time not believing that they haven’t heard of the HHR and by extension, the PPMC. Our event has national exposure and we work with law enforcement, local and regional, for no other reason than to provide a safe environment for our participants. So to jack us for no other reason than to provide intell to the BEU, so they can track movements of clubs and /or individuals is unconstitutional.
So before I hand over my ID I will express my opposition to to violation of my rights and freedoms and their use of intimidation if I fail to comply.
We can bend but we must not break, to wear the PPMC patch is a honour and I do so with pride.

Ah the perception of “US” be it by the public or be it by the “Authorities” Just the other day I was workin in Orillia. I was drivin by the local Can Tire and in the parking lot was one of the OPP’s finest sportin 2 whells of his own. I happened to notice he was engaged in conversation with some local citizens to which he later told me were some friends he just happened to encounter. I thought I would pick his brain a little, you know just to see if there was any chance that a fellow rider, all be it a law enforcement version, just might have a more open mind!!!! LOL Ya right
I introduced myself nameless as a Patch Wearing member of an MC and asked if he had heard of the HHR Ride, (just a little event that takes place the 1st Saturday of every June hahaha). He replied “I think I have heard of it” I went on to explain it has officially become Canadas largest one day ride in support of our fallen soldiers and proudly mentioned it is put on by the Perfect Pigs Motorcycle Club. Our conversation moved on, or shall I say was expedited with little enthusiam and an obvious smug demear of efficiency and I asked his general perception as a motorcycle law enforcement agent his opinion of the “MC” I asked his view on the differences between clubs and whether he not he differentiated between the 99% of us and the 1% of us as bikers??
He replied with a wonderful text book version and said “I think our OPP commisioner said it best in a recent memo put out to various precincts . “Why would you want to emulate a criminal organization by putting on a patch?” He referred to his organizations the Blue Knights and a recent encounter with a club made up of Masons, and suggested we are all emulating a undesireable personna. He said he has never had the desire to show who he belongs too or suggested why would we not just wear a little crest on our chest!!
I just listened to his close minded almost scripted response and briefley rebutted that there is a reason that some fellow bikers choose to designate themselves as 1% ers and that believe it or not some of us just enjoy a spirit of comrodory and brotherhood of bein on the road together. I also posed to him in response to his suggestion that Yes, I could just choose to wear just a small crest on my chest or I could choose to display my allegiance in a patch form on my back and that is merely just a choice I have as a free Canadian Citizen and neither determines who I am as a person!!
Regardless I just thought it interesting that yet again even in a simple 5 minute conversation on the side of the road I was quicklydismissed (and possibly profiled) and left with a feeling that there just was no open mindedness to enlighten within this particular individual. I guess he didn’t have any more time for me, (must have been used up catching up with his friends I encountered him with when I 1st pulled up, lol) as he advised me he had to be on his way as he had things to do.
Must have been time for some free coffee and donuts at the local tims Drive Thru!!

Hey my Brother, what an awesome day it was! Rollin down the black tar soaked, shiverin and shaken with 3000 other locos behind all of us. What an awesome feelin remembering those who epitomize what we stand for! Brotherhood and loyalty at its finest. The fallen soldier, layed down his life for you and me. The ride will always hold a special place in our hearts, the day we (me & Opie) found our family of Pig Brothers. So I say to you my ” Papa Pig” thank you for vision your leadership and your years of experience that have led to our nations largest 1 day ride . Can’t wait to hit 5000 next year! Your Brother, faithful and loyal to the end, Hoover.

very well put,this trip i must say was awesome,great times with brothers that i will never forget. also the look on brother big reds face when the light cover off his bike fell under the foot of our prez with the sound of (((crunch))) lol.cheers to all that were able to make the trip and to the brothers that road to the boarder with us.
